Extended School Experience Programme
Are you a 6th former considering going into teaching?
What is it?
The Extended School Experience Programme allows current 6th form students within one of the Teach SouthEast (TSE) partner schools (or a former student in a 6th form of a TSE school), the opportunity to gain experience within schools whilst at University. If you are interested in teaching as a career, you can then return to a Teach SouthEast school to complete your teacher training year once you have completed your degree
Why do it?
It is essential to get some school experience before you apply for Initial Teacher Training with TSE because:
- The three-year programme will introduce you to teaching and help you to decide whether teaching is for you.
- It will give you the opportunity to work with students and experience how rewarding this can be.
- By actually spending time within school, observing lessons and speaking to teachers, you will get a real flavour of what it is like to teach in a secondary school today.
- You will receive some basic training in learning and teaching to give you an introduction into the world of teaching
- It will also give you valuable experience to support your application to training providers should you decide to go ahead with teacher training.
- As part of the interview process for Initial Teacher Training, you will be required to teach part of a lesson. This is much less daunting if you have observed lessons.
How do you do it?
If you are currently in a 6th form college or another school’s 6th form and was a former Jubilee High student, please contact info@jubileehigh.surrey.sch.uk for further details.
Outline of the programme
Next steps
If you are selected for the programme, you will be asked to provide a brief written account of why you are interested in taking part. Selected students will then be invited to a selection day. Successful participants will then gain experience, whilst at University, within the school they originally attended. There may be opportunity to visit an ‘away’ school in the second year.
Overseas Teachers
We welcome teachers from overseas
We are eager to appoint exceptional individuals from overseas who wish to further develop their career in full-time education and make a significant contribution to the learning, and lives of our students. We have proven track record of working with and developing teachers trained in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada and Ireland. A number of our current staff joined us from overseas with many progressing to take up positions of responsibility. As part of a high performing multi academy trust, we have teamed up with our strategic partner Teach Southeast to assist with the seamless integration of our overseas staff. We offer continued and comprehensive support for colleagues converting to the English system. We are not an agency (there are no recruitment fees), just a high performing school that wants to hire the best teachers.
What we can offer you
We can offer you the chance to work in a school which has a history of developing young, dynamic and enthusiastic teachers. We have integrated many overseas trained teachers and enabled them to gain rapid promotion. We will make a commitment to induct and train you thoroughly prior to taking up your new position; we feel this ensures you are fully acclimatised to our system. We will ensure full participation in our newly qualified teacher programme so that you receive your qualified teacher status after three terms. You will also be assigned an experienced one to one subject mentor who will support your development and help you with planning, preparation and administration; you will also be working in a department that shares its lesson planning and resources. Our school boasts superb electronic and physical resources.
More about us
We are a small, inclusive and dynamic mixed comprehensive school meeting the needs of children of all abilities from 11-16 years, every day we welcome over 700 students through our gates. We are situated in Surrey, minutes away from Heathrow airport, the M25 (London orbital ring road), the M3 and 10-minute walk to the train station where London is only 25 minutes away. Many of our young overseas staff benefit from a vibrant social scene and choose to live in metropolitan areas of London such as Clapham, Wimbledon and Kingston upon Thames. Some also choose to live in the quieter and more rural areas of Surrey.
Our OFSTED grading is good and cites the Headteacher’s leadership as ‘outstanding’. Our staff always cite the school and its teachers to be friendly and hugely supportive. Our ideal candidates are energetic, ambitious (for themselves and their students), resilient and enthusiastic.
Please watch our welcome video, and email or call (01932 884800) to have an initial conversation with one of our team about working here. This can be followed by a visit to the school or an interview overseas if applicable.
